Dubai Fact-File Part 7: Dubai Business
Owner Welfare and Lifestyle
7.1 Dubai Business Social Security
The social security system: Dubai does not
have a mandatory state contribution scheme. For Dubai nationals,
the state provides the essential welfare benefits without
having to levy employers and employees to pay for these benefits.
A Dubai national will automatically qualify for state medical
care, sickness and maternity cover, childcare, pension, unemployment
benefit and certain housing and disability benefits.
Foreign workers living in Dubai do qualify for medical care
but are entitled to little else in terms of state benefits.
The Dubai government would like to see companies provide medical
insurance for their employees. Non-nationals ought really
to take out their own private medical insurance cover if going
to work and live in Dubai, as despite a relatively high standard
of state-provided healthcare, many expats (and indeed UAE
citizens) opt for private healthcare where possible.
