7.6 Dubai Education
Education: Dubai has an excellent state-funded
school system, but it is geared towards the education of the
local Arab population. The fact that most tuition is held
in Arabic precludes most foreign children from attending.
However, there is an excellent range of private and international
schools in Dubai which cater for most of the expatriate communities
in the country (British, American, Indian, Pakistani). Most
of the international schools teach in the English language.
In particular, most international schools follow the British
and American national curricula. With regard to further education,
Dubai also has several universities and business schools offering
a range of university-level courses.
Tuition fees vary. For example, the English College in Dubai
charges AED300 for an application, and term fees are between
AED7,540 and AED16,940 (3 terms per academic year). The American
School of Dubai charges fees on a full year basis and is more
expensive – fees range from AED45,000 to AED70,720 and this
is in addition to an assessment fee, which can be as high
as AED11,020.
