Dubai Fact-File Part 6:
Individual Business Employment Issues
6.3 Dubai Apprenticeship and Work Experience Schemes
Apprenticeship schemes: Any employer may
employ someone on an apprenticeship contract. With such contracts,
the employer undertakes to provide full training in the discipline(s)
required and must satisfy the UAE government that they have
the skills and facilities to train an apprentice.
The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs oversees apprentices'
contracts and may require that certain aspects are regulated
in the contract, depending on the sphere of training and the
nature of the employer’s business. Apprentices must undergo
a medical examination and their contract must specify the
wage payable during each phase of their apprenticeship.
The government may require that some employers accept a number
of students of UAE industrial and polytechnic institutes to
undergo training.
Work experience schemes: Work experience
in Dubai is likely to be offered on a case-by-case, company-by-company
basis; there are no federal schemes governing work experience
as such.
