7.4 Cyprus Individual Business Healthcare
The Cypriot health care system is of a
good standard and is accessible to residents and non-residents
and although it isn’t always entirely free, any charges imposed
are relatively inexpensive.
Those who contribute to the social insurance fund are often
entitled to free or subsidised health and dental care; medical
cards are issued to people working in Cyprus, offering free
healthcare to individuals and families with income below a
certain level (Medical Card A), and partial subsidies for
those with slightly higher incomes (Medical Card B). Higher
earners are obliged to pay for their healthcare, but the prices
are relatively low. Private health care too is relatively
inexpensive.
As a member of the EU, Cyprus can provide free health care
to citizens from other EU member states that have contributed
to social insurance schemes in their own countries, although
only for a limited period.
For non-residents and citizens of the EU on short visits
to Cyprus, it is a requirement to possess a European Health
Insurance Card (EHIC), issued by each member state to its
own citizens.
Other forms of health card or E-form are required for other
persons living or working in Cyprus from non-EU countries.
New residents of Cyprus should apply for a Cyprus Medical
Identity Card using form Min. Health (I.Y.87) – available
from the Ministry of Health web site at www.moh.gov.cy.
