Hong Kong Fact-File Part 7: Hong Kong Business
Owner Welfare and Lifestyle
7.1 Hong Kong Business Social Security
The social security system
Hong Kong residents may be given financial support under
the non-contributory Comprehensive Social Security Assistance
Scheme, which will provide funds for general living expenses
for those unable to support themselves either through old
age, illness, disability or unemployment. Further details
on this are available from the Social Welfare Department:
http://www.swd.gov.hk/en/index/site_pubsvc/page_socsecu/sub_comprehens/
.
Unemployed able-bodied individuals receiving CSSA are encouraged
to participate in the Support for Self-reliance Scheme which
provides training and development opportunities as well as
access to unpaid community work to help build up self-esteem.
A ‘disregarded earnings’ regime acts as incentive to individuals
to enter into employment and still receive financial support.
