5.2 Hong Kong Training Incentive Schemes

The Vocational Training Council arranges and oversees apprenticeship placements and administers all relevant theoretical and practical tests for any given area. Voluntary tests are available for those working in a profession for which they have not completed an apprenticeship or training course. Current tests include the following areas:

· Hairdresser
· Beautician
· Vehicle Technician
· Vehicle Electrician
· Vehicle Body Repairer
· Vehicle Painter
· Goldsmiths
· Precious stone setter
· Machinist
· Mechanical Fitter
· Mould and Dye Maker
· CNC Lathe Operator
· Electrician

The Social Welfare Department runs a number of programs for individuals in receipt of comprehensive social security assistance. These include Active Employment Assistance and Integrated Employment Assistance to enhance the employability of individuals.
